Colombia was among the three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the other two countries were Ecuador and Venezuela). The country is maintaining a growth rate of 4% due to the focused efforts to reduce public debt levels and increase exports. The IMF Economic Indicators forecast the Colombian GDP to reach US$156.69 billion in 2008. Colombia's economy suffers from internal conflicts, austere government budgets, and weak market demand (both domestic and foreign).
