Bahrain is home to numerous multinational firms due to its developed communication and transport facilities. Petroleum production and refining accounts for 11% of the GDP, 70% of government revenues and 60% of Bahrain's export earnings. However, Bahrain is expected to be the first Persian Gulf nation to run dry of oil, and steps have been taken to diversify the nonagricultural sector of the economy. Bahrain is also picking up pace in financial and construction sectors. There is some fishing, and dates, fruits, and vegetables are grown, but the majority of Bahrain's food is imported.
